Clean text appears where your cursor is. If you switched windows or are in a password field, it goes to your clipboard instead, and the indicator tells you.

Lower is better. Rows marked * or † were measured elsewhere. Parakeet v2 makes about 14 fewer word errors per thousand than Whisper large-v3 on an independent leaderboard. It compares two engines, not two apps. Superwhisper can run Parakeet too, and Rambleproof's default English model is Parakeet Unified, a different configuration. Wispr Flow and Apple come from other sources.
Sources and the numbers as a table

The leaderboard measures speech engines, not whole apps, averaged over 8 datasets: AMI, Earnings22, GigaSpeech, LibriSpeech clean, LibriSpeech other, SPGISpeech, TED-LIUM v3, VoxPopuli. Before 1.0.9, Rambleproof's own end-to-end time was 1.32s median over 37 dictations (key release to cleaned text at the cursor, MacBook Air M4, macOS 26.5.1); 1.0.9 streams transcription while you talk and brings that to about 1 second.

Which Macs can run Rambleproof?
Any Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) on macOS 15 or later, including macOS 26 Tahoe and macOS 27 Golden Gate. macOS 26 or later is recommended because it adds optional Apple models. Intel Macs and macOS 13 or 14 are not supported. Check under Apple menu, About This Mac.
Does it work in every app?
It works anywhere you can type: email, notes, chat, docs, your browser and AI tools. A few web editors and terminals behave differently. If no text field is selected, your words are copied so you can paste them yourself, and it never types into a password field.
What happens after 15,000 words in a week?
Nothing stops. You keep dictating as much as you like, and until Monday the cleanup is basic: fillers and punctuation, without the AI rewrite. The app shows when that happens. Pro has no weekly limit. Installations from before version 1.1.1 keep 20,000 AI-cleaned words a week.
What does it ask permission for?
Two things. Microphone, so it can hear you while you hold the shortcut. Accessibility (called Device Control and Data Access on macOS 27), so it can type at your cursor and avoid password fields. Nothing else.
How is it different from the dictation built into macOS?
Built-in dictation types every word as it hears it, ums included. Rambleproof waits until you let go, cleans up the whole thought, checks that your meaning survived, and then types it once.
Do I need a special microphone?
No. The built-in microphone, AirPods or a USB microphone all work. Rambleproof picks the best one and switches to another if one goes silent mid-sentence.
Which languages?
English is the language we have tested and recommend. Other languages can work, but we only make claims about what we have measured.
Is Rambleproof a good alternative to Wispr Flow or Superwhisper?
If you are on a Mac and want your words to stay on it, yes. Wispr Flow sends your audio to the cloud and works on more devices. Superwhisper runs locally with many models to choose from. Rambleproof runs on your Mac with nothing to configure and checks the cleaned text against what you said. We build it, so read the full comparisons too.
Does Rambleproof work offline?
Yes. After the one-time setup, speech recognition and cleanup run entirely on your Mac with no internet. Only the optional cloud models, which you switch on with your own key, send anything off your Mac.
What happens when I update macOS?
Nothing you need to do. Rambleproof keeps your settings and permissions. The first dictation after a macOS update can take up to a minute while the speech model is prepared once, and after an upgrade to macOS 26 or 27 the optional Apple models appear in Settings.
