Aqua Voice vs Rambleproof

Aqua Voice sends your speech to its own cloud model and runs on four platforms. Rambleproof transcribes on your Mac, only on a Mac, and has a free plan that does not run out. Here is what each vendor publishes and who each one suits.

The short version

Choose Aqua Voice if you dictate on Windows or a phone as well as a Mac, want many languages, or want dictation that can look at your screen to spell what is on it. Choose Rambleproof if you work on one Mac, want your voice processed on that Mac, and want to use it free without a word counter running down.

What Aqua Voice publishes

Aqua's Mac page says it processes audio in the cloud, where its own Avalon model runs, and that one download works on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Its site lists apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android and 49 languages with automatic detection. Features it leads with are text that is refined as you speak, a custom dictionary, an edit mode where you select text and say the change, and an optional Deep Context setting that uses what is on your screen. It names Cursor, Claude Code and ChatGPT among the apps it is built for.

Aqua's pricing page lists a free plan with 1,000 words and no credit card, Pro at $10 a month or $8 a month billed annually with unlimited words, Max at $30 or $24, and Business at $24 or $19 a seat with a two-seat minimum. There is no lifetime license. Its privacy policy describes a Privacy Mode setting that controls whether transcripts may be stored.

What Rambleproof does

Rambleproof is push-to-talk dictation for Apple silicon Macs. Hold the shortcut, speak, release, and cleaned text is pasted at your cursor. Transcription and cleanup both run on the Mac and work offline after a one-time activation. Cleanup removes fillers and false starts, then checks that numbers and negations from your speech survived, and falls back to a simpler cleanup when they did not. Cloud models are optional on Pro and use your own API key.

Unlimited raw local dictation forever, with 15,000 AI-cleaned words each week at Light or Medium, then basic cleanup (fillers and punctuation, no AI rewrite) until Monday. Pro is $8 a month billed yearly or $12 monthly. Lifetime is $200. English is the language we test and recommend.
