What dictation apps really cost (2026)
Current Mac dictation prices range from an included system feature to $180 a year or $249.99 once. The useful comparison includes both the billing horizon and what each plan actually covers.

These are published US dollar prices except MacWhisper, which lists euros. The arithmetic excludes tax, regional pricing, vendor discounts, API usage, and future price changes. Rambleproof's founding price applies for 60 days from the new pricing launch.
Free tiers have different stopping points
A zero-dollar row does not mean the same thing across products. Wispr Flow's official desktop plan documentation describes a 2,000-word soft cap and a 5,000-word hard cap each week. Superwhisper publishes a 3,000-word Pro trial, and its 26 August release notes made all local Whisper models free on macOS. Its Pro tier adds the broader cloud-model and mode set. Apple Dictation is part of macOS rather than a separate paid product.
Rambleproof Free keeps unlimited raw local dictation forever. It includes 15,000 AI-cleaned words each week, then switches to deterministic cleanup until the weekly reset. It also includes two custom modes, complete local history, and every safety feature. Free dictation works offline after activation. Rambleproof's paid boundary
Pro is $12 a month or $96 a year. Its 14-day preview starts with the first successful dictation. Managed cloud is planned for a future release, with pricing and availability to be announced separately. Lifetime is $200, with a $150 founding price for the first 60 days from the new pricing launch. Lifetime includes everything local and your own API keys. Managed cloud and cloud sync are not included and are not available yet.
Cloud services and bring-your-own-key costs
Cloud transcription and managed language models create recurring infrastructure costs, but architecture alone does not determine a vendor's price. Local apps can still fund ongoing development with subscriptions, while a cloud-capable product can offer a lifetime license with specific service limits.
Bring-your-own-key routes move any provider usage bill to the customer's provider account. Superwhisper and MacWhisper publish supported external-provider connections. Rambleproof includes its own API-key routes in Lifetime, while managed cloud service remains a Pro subscription boundary. Those usage charges are not included in the table.
Match the horizon to the workflow
If you need only occasional system dictation, test the included and free tiers before comparing paid totals. If local processing or a one-time purchase is required, compare VoiceInk, MacWhisper, Superwhisper Lifetime, and Rambleproof Lifetime by feature boundary as well as sticker price. If cross-platform cloud dictation and team controls are required, Flow covers a different scope from the Mac-focused options.
