The short version
Take Wispr Flow if you work across several machines and operating systems and want the most polished product with the least setup. Take Superwhisper if you want your audio to stay on your Mac, you like choosing your own models, and you would rather pay once than subscribe forever.
Where your voice goes
This is the difference that decides the rest. Wispr's own privacy page says transcription always happens in the cloud, and its setup documentation requires an internet connection and an account, with Google, Apple, Microsoft, SSO or email sign-in. Superwhisper's models page lists on-device transcription and language models alongside optional cloud models, so the local path is available and the cloud one is a choice you make.
Practically: Superwhisper dictates on a plane and Wispr Flow does not. Whether that matters depends entirely on whether you work offline, and for a lot of people the answer is honestly no.
Platforms
Wispr Flow runs on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. Superwhisper ships on Mac, Windows, iPhone and iPad, and its Pro documentation says one licence covers all of them with no device limit for Mac and Windows computers. If Android is in your life, that decides it: only one of the two is there.

Over three years at list price that is $432 for Flow billed annually against $249.99 once for Superwhisper Lifetime. Superwhisper's 26 August 2026 release notes changed the free trial to a 3,000-word Pro trial and made all local Whisper models free on macOS; older onboarding copy still mentions 15 minutes, so we follow the newer release note. Website and App Store prices can differ, and regional checkout prices, student pricing and promotions all move these numbers.
What each is better at
Wispr Flow is the more finished product and it shows in the places that are hard to get right: it is the same experience on every platform, it needs almost no configuration, and its cleanup reads well without you tuning anything. It also has Command Mode, team features and a Mac meeting notetaker, which is a wider product than dictation alone.
Superwhisper is the more configurable product. Its modes can select a voice model, connect supported API tokens, apply AI processing, and switch automatically for particular apps or sites. If you want different behaviour in your terminal than in your email, that is built for you. It is also the one that works with no network at all.
The question that actually decides it
Ask what happens on the day your connection is bad. If the answer is “I stop dictating and that is fine”, Wispr Flow is the easier product and worth the subscription. If the answer is “I still need to work”, or if you handle anything you would rather not send to a third party, the local path is not a preference and Superwhisper is the one of these two that has it.
