Superwhisper Pro costs $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year or $249.99 once, and covers Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. If you want a different price, fewer settings or a different processing model, these are the alternatives to look at.

What Superwhisper already does well

Superwhisper is one of the most flexible dictation apps available. Its site lists macOS, Windows, iOS and Android, more than 100 languages, meeting recording with notes, and file transcription, and it says the app works offline. The Free plan includes unlimited dictation with any local Whisper model, custom vocabulary, text replacements and up to two modes. Pro adds cloud models, faster local models including Parakeet, its AI modes, context awareness, system audio recording and your own API keys. One Pro license covers unlimited Macs and Windows PCs plus an iPhone and an Android phone.

So the reason to look elsewhere is rarely a missing feature. It is usually one of three things: the price over several years, the number of models and modes to choose between, or wanting a narrower tool that does one job. Our Superwhisper review covers the app itself in more depth.

Wispr Flow: cloud dictation across four platforms

Wispr Flow runs on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android and is built for polished dictation with little setup. Its privacy page says transcription always happens in the cloud, for speed and accuracy. Its pricing page lists a Free plan of 2,000 words a week on desktop, and Pro at $15 per user each month or $12 when billed annually ($144 a year). If you want a cross-platform app that works well without choosing models, and cloud processing suits you, it is the closest like-for-like option. Our Wispr Flow review has more detail.

MacWhisper: file transcription first, €64 once

MacWhisper's site lists a free version and a €64 Pro license with lifetime updates, sold directly and through the App Store. It started as a tool for transcribing audio and video files on the Mac, and now also offers system-wide dictation and, in Pro, meeting recording and speaker recognition. Processing is local, with optional connections to AI providers in Pro. If most of your work is recordings and meetings, with dictation as a bonus, it is a sensible buy.

VoiceInk: open source, $25 to $49 once

VoiceInk's pricing page lists one-time prices of $25 for one Mac, $39 for two and $49 for three, with a 14-day money-back guarantee. Its source code is on GitHub under the GPL v3 license, and it runs local models including whisper.cpp and Parakeet. Its site says your voice data never leaves your Mac, and that its optional cloud enhancement receives only the transcribed text. It runs only on Apple silicon Macs. Apple Dictation: included with macOS

Apple Dictation is already on your Mac and works in any text field. Apple says you can dictate text of any length without a timeout, and Keyboard settings show whether your Mac processes it on the device. It does not clean up fillers or restarts and has no custom vocabulary to speak of, but it costs nothing and is the right baseline to try before paying for anything. Rambleproof: one push-to-talk workflow, Mac only

Rambleproof is our app, so weigh this entry accordingly. It does less than Superwhisper by design: one push-to-talk workflow on Apple silicon Macs with macOS 15 or later, no Windows or phone apps, no meeting recording and no file transcription. You hold a shortcut, speak and release, and cleaned text lands at your cursor. In Local mode, transcription and cleanup run on your Mac and work offline after setup. Cloud processing is an optional Pro choice with your own API key. English is the language we test and recommend. It is also the newest app on this page.

Free includes unlimited local dictation with 20,000 AI-cleaned words each week, then basic cleanup. Pro is $12 a month or $96 a year. Lifetime is $150 until 9 November 2026, then $200. Lifetime includes everything local and your own API keys. Managed cloud and cloud sync are not included and are not available yet.

The table uses published US dollar prices except MacWhisper, which publishes its price in euros. It excludes tax, regional pricing, API usage, student and other discounts, and future price changes. The options do not cover the same platforms or features, so the cheapest row is only the best value if it does the job you need.

What changes when you leave Superwhisper

Only Wispr Flow matches Superwhisper's reach across Mac, Windows and phones. MacWhisper keeps file and meeting transcription on the Mac. VoiceInk, Apple Dictation and Rambleproof are Mac dictation tools with fewer settings than Superwhisper. In return you may get a lower price, a simpler setup, or, in VoiceInk's case, open source code.

Choose by the job, then by price

Start with the requirement you will not give up: platform coverage, local or cloud processing, file transcription, many models, or a single simple workflow. Then compare the free tiers and the paid horizon that fit it.
